IP Issues Surrounding Blockchain Technology Implementation

There have been a steep increase in patents in the blockchain space; this is in contrast with efforts to open source underlying software. Beyond that, there are other significant issues with blockchain patents such as subject matter eligibility (i.e., Alice 101 issues), divided infringement, abysmal allowance rates for business methods, etc.  Nonetheless, the statistics show extreme interest in intellectual property protection.
